Why do we have to talk about men? If we establish that the kind of patriarchy most often express has brought with it an imbalance of powers along the lines of gender this might come as a surprise. Here’s the question: Can a culture value men without devaluing other genders? Even as I write this, I can feel the tension building. Yes, but…This is what division does: It pits one group against another within the context of a power struggle. This, rather than a collaborative relationship that fundamentally values each party and allows for the support and celebration of each party’s own expression of self. So, does it have to be a power struggle? What does it look like if the power struggle was eliminated? What would a culture look like if we found a way to value each other regardless of gender but with specific celebration of our unique qualities?
